Below is a list of versions and relevant changes to Auction Nudge.

Version 2024.4.0 October 2024

Retiring Your eBay Profile and Your eBay Feedback tools.

It is with regret that after 14 years, the Your eBay Profile and Your eBay Feedback tools are being retired. This means that the ability to create new snippets for these tools has been removed and existing snippets will soon cease to function.

Unfortunately, eBay has scheduled the data source for these tools to be decommissioned in February 2025. With no alternative available, it will no longer be possible to provide these tools.

The tools will continue to function as normal until the Shopping API is decommissioned in February 2025. At this time, the tools will cease to function and no content will be displayed on the page.

I did not take this decision lightly and I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Advertising Disclosure

  • The following advertising disclosure has been added to Auction Nudge tools, which was an eBay requirement:
    Ad  Clicking an item will take you to eBay, who may pay a referral commission if a purchase is made.
    As a member of the eBay Partner Network, Auction Nudge must disclose this in order to satisfy the FTC's Affiliate Disclosure Guidelines.
  • The "Powered by" text appearing at the bottom of tools has been removed.

Some minor bugs coming from eBay.

  • There are currently two bugs coming from eBay's data feed which is affecting Auction Nudge:

    • The Your eBay Feedback tool was not correctly displaying the from/when data for feedback entires. This information is currently being hidden by Auction Nudge until this is resolved. Thanks to Keith for bringing this to my attention.
    • The Your eBay Listings tool currently does not always show items ending within the next 30 minutes. This means that some items will be removed from your feed before they have actually ended on eBay. Thanks to Paul for bringing this to my attention.

Version 4.4.1 October 17, 2018

A change to how the "Show eBay logo?" option is handled.

  • A long standing option for most Your eBay Listings themes is the ability show/hide the "right now on eBay" logo above your eBay listings. This was useful for users who wanted more control over how they displayed their active eBay items on their site.

    In certain situations this means that it may not be clear that the items displayed are active on eBay and that clicking on them will take you to the eBay site. This behaviour has been changed in order to satisfy the EPN Code of Conduct.

    Starting immediately, all Your eBay Listings instances will either:

    • Display the "right now on eBay" logo above each set of eBay items.
    • Or, the word "eBay" (contextualised as either "on eBay" or "view on eBay") will display next to each individual eBay item.

    For the Images Only theme, where no text is displayed, the "Show eBay logo?" option has been removed, meaning that this theme will always display the "right now on eBay" logo.

  • The Search Box feature for the Your eBay Listings tool allows your site visitors to search your eBay items by keyword. If this option is enabled, a search box will appear above the items which will allow users to search all of your active eBay items.

  • This fix addresses an issue introduced by eBay where users were redirected to a 'similar item' for sale, instead of viewing actual sold item. Thanks to WordPress user doulou for bringing this to my attention.

    This allows you to specify which language Auction Nudge tools display on your site. To change language, use the language option when creating your code snippet.

This is a major update of Auction Nudge, combining a large number of behind-the-scenes improvements with a website redesign.

The code that runs the Auction Nudge Tools has been completely refactored, improving performance and making it easier to add features moving forwards.

The new website isn’t just a fresh lick of paint either, all of the content on the site has been revised and extended. Most noticeably, the Customize andHelp pages have been broken up into multiple pages, with more content and examples added.

    Note – these changes are backwards compatible with the old OR (:) operator that this feature supported, so snippets do not need to be updated.

  • The Your eBay Ads tool has been retired. All existing snippets will continue to function indefinitely, but the ability to create new snippets has been removed. This means that users who are already using the Your eBay Ads tool will not notice any disruption in service.

    Why?

    After being added to Auction Nudge a little over a year ago, the decision has been made to remove the Your eBay Ads tool. During it's lifetime, the tool has unfortunately proven itself to be ineffective at converting website visitors into eBay sales.

    To give some perspective on this, during my analysis I found that the Your eBay Listings tool on average has a CTR (click-through rate) 1250% higher (yes, you did read that right) than the Your eBay Ads tool. This means that by switching to the Your eBay Listings tool you are over twelve times more likely to have one of your website visitors become a potential buyer on eBay.

    As Auction Nudge has always striven to help sellers promote their eBay items, I could not ignore this poor performance and decided to retire this tool. As well as converting more sales for users, this will also help me focus my time and resources elsewhere, so I can continue to improve Auction Nudge products.

    This decision was not made lightly, and I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Existing Snippets

    All existing snippets will continue to function indefinitely. It is only the ability to create new snippets that has been removed. This means that users who are already using the Your eBay Ads tool will not notice any disruption in service.

    WordPress Users

    As of version 4.3 of the WordPress plugin, new plugin users will not see the Your eBay Ads tool. Existing plugin users (i.e. you have previously used one of the Auction Nudge tools in the WordPress install) will be able to use the Your eBay Ads as before.

    This will be handled by the plugin like so:

    • Existing users of the plugin will be able to use the Your eBay Ads tool without change
    • New plugin users will not see the Your eBay Ads option when using the plugin
    • All users who do not upgrade past version 4.2, or chose to downgrade to 4.2 will be able to use the Your eBay Ads tool without change

    A Better Alternative

    If you are looking to promote your eBay items on your own website, I highly recommend using the Your eBay Listings tool. Since Auction Nudge started in 2008 this tool has always been the main focus. Some benefits include:

    • More sales for you – using the Your eBay Listings tool means you are over twelve times more likely to have one of your website visitors become a potential buyer on eBay compared to the Your eBay Ads tool.
    • Responsive – this tool now features a responsive theme, which means your listings will adapt to best suit the area they are displayed it (for example in a sidebar or main content area). This also includes differences in devices, screen size or orientation.
    • More features and options – view all of your items over multiple pages, control how your items display using themes and display large item images.
    • Customizable – as well as various themes and options, items can be modified using CSS and JavaScript, to better integrate with your site. View the Customize page to find out more.

  • Due to an unforeseen issue with the eBay data source which powers the Your eBay Feedback tool, the Show X Entries option is now limited to a maximum of 5 entries (was previously 25) and the Feedback Type option has been removed.

    Code snippets do not need to be changed and where these options were in use the following behaviour will now occur:
    • Show X Entries – If a number over 5 was specified, only 5 feedback entries will now display
    • Feedback Type – No matter which option was previously selected ("Feedback received as a seller", "All feedback received", "All feedback left for others" or "Feedback received as a buyer"), the feedback entries returned will now be "All feedback received"

    This was not a planned change and I apologise for this reduction in features.

Auction Nudge 3 released! This is a major release which contains some of the most requested features since the tool was first launched back in 2008. Most notably:

  • Pagination – there is no longer a limit to the total number of items Auction Nudge can display using the Your eBay Listings tool. Each page can show up to 100 items at once, if you have more listed "Previous" and "Next" buttons will allow users to navigate through multiple pages. Use the Show multiple pages? option to enable this feature
  • Larger images – Your eBay Listings item image sizes can now be increased up to 500px x 500px using the Image Size option. Previously the maximum was 140px x 140px

Other updates and improvements in this version:

  • New 'Profile Table' theme added to the Your eBay Feedback tool. This displays a user profile overview, as well as feedback and ratings overviews
  • Bug fixes and general improvements to the Your eBay Listings 'Carousel' theme
  • Small presentation tweaks to the Your eBay Listings 'Images Only' theme
  • Table cell and image CSS alignment improved for the Your eBay Listings tool (only if using the new 'Image Size' option)

A major update which adds the #1 requested feature and fixes the #1 queried bug (previously no work-around was available) Many thanks to everyone who got in touch, your feedback is invaluable!

  • After many requests from users you can now filter items by category using the Your eBay Items tool. This is useful if you have items listed in multiple categories on eBay but only want to display those listed in a certain category on your site. What's more you can specify up to 3 different categories.

    More help and information is available on the Help/FAQ page.

  • Fixed Your eBay Profile bug where badges linked through to the eBay US site regardless of where the user is registered. This sometimes meant listings were not being displayed on the eBay US site. When generating the code snippet, a eBay site can now be specified.

Using the Codeigniter PHP Framework I was able to work from the ground up and create a version of Auction Nudge that was much more powerful than the original version and also more flexible.

Although many many improvements have been made, some include :

  • Addition of the 'Your eBay Profile' tool which allows users to embed information about their eBay profile
  • Adding new options to the 'Your eBay Listings' tool
  • Migrating to the eBay Shopping API
  • More performance improvements, Auction Nudge now loads faster then ever!
  • Fresh new website design with lots more help content
  • Improved Demo and Examples pages

Auction Nudge was first written in 2008 as a handy tool available on another, now defunct website. Due to it's success it was moved to it's new home here in 2009.
